My Mold Protocol: The Products That Carried Me Through Mold Recovery

If you are searching for a mold detox protocol, you are probably exhausted, dismissed, and tired of being told your labs look fine. I know that place well. I lived it.

One Thing I wish someone had told me sooner:

This page is not a theory. It is the short list of what I actually used — and in most cases still use — while recovering from mold and mycotoxin exposure: glutathione, far infrared sauna therapy, serious air filtration, and targeted nutritional support. I am a health coach, not a doctor, so this is not medical advice. It is a map of the road I walked, with a few of my favorite products that made a difference, so you can discuss these with your doctor.

One thing I want to say plainly at the top, because I wish someone had told me sooner: I did not find real help until I pursued alternative medicine. Conventional care kept me alive, but functional and naturopathic practitioners are the ones who finally understood what mold does to the body. If you need help finding a provider, scroll to the bottom — I will point you toward one.

Healthy is holy, and holy is healthy. Rebuilding your temple after mold is slow, faithful work. Here is what helped me do it.

1. Glutathione: The Detox Molecule Mold Steals From You

Why glutathione injections are often the turning point in mold illness

Injectable glutathione bypasses the digestive tract entirely and delivers glutathione directly into circulation — without depending on a damaged gut to absorb it or a suppressed NRF2 pathway to manufacture it. For mold patients, that is not a marginal improvement. It is frequently the difference between a protocol that stalls and a protocol that finally moves. → See the glutathione injections I use What about NAC and other glutathione precursors? Precursors like N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and glycine give your body the raw materials to build glutathione — which is genuinely valuable, and many practitioners use them alongside direct glutathione. But it is worth understanding the distinction: precursors supply the ingredients, while your NRF2 pathway runs the factory. If mycotoxins have suppressed the factory, more ingredients only get you so far. This is precisely why practitioners working with mold patients so often reach for direct, injectable glutathione instead of relying on precursors alone. ⚠️ Read this before you order glutathione injections Glutathione opens detox pathways. That is exactly the point — and exactly the risk. When detoxification suddenly accelerates in a body carrying a heavy toxic burden with sluggish drainage, mobilized toxins can recirculate and make you feel dramatically worse before you feel better. Many people know this as a "Herx" or die-off reaction, and it can be severe. You must discuss glutathione injections with your doctor or a qualified practitioner before starting — ideally one experienced in mold and mycotoxin illness. Dose, frequency, drainage support, and binder timing are individual decisions, and they matter enormously. Do not skip this step. I mean it. Need help finding a practitioner who understands mold? Email me with your state and I will point you toward someone I trust.

2. Far Infrared Sauna for Mold Detox: Why Head-Out Design Matters

How far-infrared supports detoxification

Far infrared saunas do not heat the air around you — they emit infrared wavelengths that warm your body directly. That means you reach a therapeutic sweat at a much lower ambient temperature than a traditional sauna. Sweat is a genuine excretion route, and gentle, repeatable sweating supports circulation and the body's natural elimination pathways without the cardiovascular strain of extreme heat. For anyone in mold recovery, that lower-temperature approach is not a nice-to-have. It is often the only way sauna therapy is tolerable at all. Why the head-out design mattered for me Mold patients frequently have dysregulated nervous systems, and one of the most common ways that shows up is heat intolerance. A conventional full-enclosure sauna can send an already-overstimulated nervous system straight into panic — racing heart, dizziness, that overwhelming need to get out. My portable far infrared sauna lets me keep my head outside the heat, which makes the entire session something my body can actually tolerate and repeat. There is a second reason I insist on this design. Many cabinet saunas are built with plywood, adhesives, and finishes that can off-gas volatile organic compounds, including formaldehyde — and mold patients are frequently highly reactive to formaldehyde and VOCs. Sitting inside a sealed hot box breathing that in is the opposite of detox. Keeping my head out of the enclosure means I am not inhaling whatever the unit is releasing while I sweat.

3. Air Purification: It's Not As Simple As It Might Seem

I do not say this lightly: my Austin Air purifiers probably saved my life.

You cannot detox faster than you are being re-exposed. That is the whole equation. If the air you breathe for eight hours a night still carries mold spores, mycotoxin-laden particulate, and the VOCs that come with water damage, every supplement you take is fighting a losing battle. Why you need HEPA and carbon — in real quantities Most consumer air purifiers give you HEPA alone, or a token carbon layer — a thin mat dusted with charcoal that saturates within weeks. For mold recovery you need both, and you need the carbon in serious quantity, because the two filters do fundamentally different jobs: True medical-grade HEPA captures the particulate: mold spores, fragments, and the fine particles mycotoxins ride on. Austin Air's medical-grade HEPA is proven to remove 99.97% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns, and 99% of airborne particles down to 0.1 microns. Activated carbon and zeolite capture what HEPA physically cannot — gases. Mycotoxins, VOCs, formaldehyde, and the musty odors of a water-damaged building are chemical, not particulate. That requires pounds of granular carbon and zeolite with enough surface area and dwell time to actually adsorb them, not a filter with carbon sprayed on it. Austin Air units are Built in Buffalo, use mechanical filtration only — no ozone-generating ionizers, PCO, ESP, or UV — and are not WiFi-connected. For a mold-recovering household, that last detail matters more than it sounds. The Mold Recovery Home Bundle covers a whole home the way it should be covered: two 5-stage Bedroom Machines for the rooms where you sleep and heal, a 4-stage HealthMate for your main living area, and a 4-stage HealthMate Jr for a bathroom or home office.

4. Nutrition, Cellular Energy, and Filling in the Gaps

Supplements for gut health, hormones, energy, and everything in between.

Mold illness is, at its core, a cellular energy problem. Mycotoxins damage mitochondria — the engines inside your cells that produce ATP, the fuel every process in your body runs on. That is why mold fatigue is not ordinary tiredness. It is the difference between a tired battery and a broken charger. Alongside real food, these were the gaps I worked hardest to fill: Natural energy support — this was huge for me. Clean, steady energy without the crash, on the days my own production simply was not there. Gut health — mycotoxins disrupt the gut lining and microbiome, and your gut is a primary route for eliminating toxins. If it is not working, nothing downstream works. Vitamins and micronutrients — a body under sustained oxidative stress burns through nutrients faster than a healthy one. Protein and collagen — glutathione is built from amino acids, and repair of any kind requires raw materials. I have used different products at different times for different reasons, and what I needed in month two was not what I needed in year two. Browse the products I use at the button below, and if you are not sure where to start, email me. I would rather point you to the right thing than have you waste money on the wrong one.
